Gusto's new AI teammate runs payroll tasks so you do not have to ask twice

Cofounder works from context Gusto already has: your team roster, payroll schedule, benefits setup and compliance calendar, plus whatever you connect from Google Workspace, Notion or Slack. Instead of clicking through screens, you tell it what you want in a sentence, something like "run payroll for this Friday and flag anything that needs my approval" or "send me a labor cost report by department every Monday morning". Reporting on the launch counts more than 20 pre-built automations covering payroll runs, onboarding, expense approvals and compliance tasks.

This is worth naming for what it is: an agentic workflow, not a chatbot. A chatbot answers when you ask. An agent is handed a goal and takes the steps itself, including steps that touch money and compliance. That is exactly where the caution belongs. Before you connect anything like this to a live payroll account, decide in advance what it can do without you, what it can only draft or flag, and what always needs your sign-off.
